Cooroy Future Group Inc

Welcome to Cooroy Future Group Inc's website.

Our vision is:  "To develop and sustain facilities in the Cooroy Community for the benefit of present and future generations with balanced consideration to history, culture, education, arts and economics.”

Cooroy Future Group Inc (CFG) is an updated version of the Cooroy Lower Mill Board Inc which was formed in 2004 by the community and Noosa Council to oversee the development of the land on the old Cooroy Lower Mill Site.  In 2006,  the Board commissioned consultants to prepare a Master Plan to guide the development of the Lower Mill Site and the Butter Factory Precinct in accordance with the Design for Living Concept developed by the Board.  This led to refurbishment of the heritage boiler and kilns in 2008 and then the sale of the remaining commercial land, regeneration of the riparian zone and the construction of the Cooroy Library which was opened in 2010.

In 2015, the Cooroy Lower Mill Board Inc changed its name to Cooroy Future Group Inc to continue the worthy work of the community of Cooroy.  Currently, CFG has these major projects.

  • regular small community events
  • In 2015, Noosa Shire Council went to the community through public consultation meetings to find a community group interested in taking over the running of the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre. CFG was advised it was the successful party and in late 2015 planning started with the employment of an Arts Centre Co-Ordinator who commenced work on planning exhibitions as from January 2016.  An Assistant Co-Ordinator was recruited to start work in January 2016 and casuals were hired to fill in on weekends.  Staff are supported by valued volunteers every day.  Since 2017 the gallery spaces have been booked out for a year in advance.  Masterclasses and workshops have been held regularly.   In September 2016, Noosa Council gave in principle approval to a ‘retail shop’ being set up in the old office space, and this shop, now called The Artisan Store, opened on 1 December 2016.  The successful model for this Store sees local artists invited to participate, renting a space, and operating as a co-operative with sales attracting minimal commission.
  • Since 2019 Cooroy Future Group Inc assumed management rights of the Great Noosa Trail Walk, a 3 day walk in October each year - through the Noosa Hinterland - more info available at the website.
